D4D Portfolio

The old and historic market town of Elland is located in West Yorkshire and home to a newly rebranded dental practice ‘Elland Smiles’.

Situated on the River Calder and famous for its wool production, Elland features several old landmarks and shows off its rich heritage with many stone buildings, traditional pubs and cobbled streets.

After a recent transformation, the practice at Elland Smiles was reborn to serve the local community with the very best oral care and cosmetic treatments dentistry has to offer.

Modern, approachable and sympathetic

With textiles being the main trade in Elland during the industrial revolution, the River Calder played an integral part in many peoples lives. The Calder Valley is also celebrated for its natural beauty and therefore a brand identity based around these two key features seemed an ideal choice for the new logo design.

Keep it simple, keep it strong...

The power of a beautiful smile is often underestimated. Yet it’s subtle curves and delicate features can have a big influence on how we feel and react. The logo of Elland Smiles logo was designed specifically to include elements of the name in its symbol by featuring facial curves, gentle waves of the River Calder and sweeping hills of the Valley.

A logo is never complete without consideration for its typography. Creating a perfect partnership with a font that appears in tune with the icon can make or break a design. Elland Smiles has it just right, a simple concept resulting in a perfect execution.

A brand concept does not have to be over complicated. This portfolio page displays how a simple design can be so effective just by using two tone colours and emphasising the power of its symbol.

Brand designs can convey so many subliminal messages and many people do not realise the impact and power a simple logo can have. It can influence our thoughts, feelings and behaviours without us being fully conscious of it.

Elland Smiles is a good example of a brand concept with a contemporary style identity whilst using soft tonal colours that seamlessly blend in with its surroundings. This empathetic approach is a very clever touch by demonstrating how the brand cares and considers its local environment and the population living in it.
