SEO For Facial Aesthetics

ADVERTISING BOTOX IN YOUR SEO

Well implemented SEO for facial aesthetics can help to generate many thousands of visitors to your website. However, you may well be aware that the Advertising Standards Authority are clamping down on the advertising of Botox and similar products on all media to the public.

BOTOX CANNOT BE ADVERTISED TO THE PUBLIC

The fact is, all Botulinum Toxin type products like BOTOX  are a Prescription Only Medicine and like all POM’s, there is a CAP Code which prohibits them from being marketed to the general public. This means you will have to remove all promotional references of Botox or similar products on your Social Media and Dental Websites. The same applies to product logos, testimonials, links, hover text, small print and price lists. You cannot use or display them.

WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE?

Many dentists, beauty therapists and other clinicians have posted facial aesthetic services on web banners, facebook pages and instagram feeds. Typical promotions include special offers such as ‘Wrinkle Reduction – 3 areas for the price of 2′. Or they breach the CAP Code by describing the benefits of Botox for it cosmetic effect. Such as ‘you can look years younger with Botox’ and so on.

If your website and social media pages include these or similar promotions and messages, they must be removed or changed. Before and after photos and patient endorsing videos will also have to be withdrawn.

WHAT ABOUT GOOGLE DESCRIPTIONS?

Search engine listings with links to your website that mention ‘Botox’ for facial aesthetics services will need to be removed or altered. The same applies to any similar POM brand names. They cannot be promoted to the general public.

If your google listing also includes promotional headline messaging, or descriptive terms to advertise botox facial cosmetic treatment to the general public, it must be removed.

As well as search engine listings, your website homepage should not display or mention any Botulinum Toxin type products and services.

WILL THIS AFFECT YOUR SEO RANKINGS?

Unfortunately when removing attractive promotions and popular related keywords, your website is likely to experience a drop in Google rankings. It will also result in a reduced numbers of visitors.

This can be hard swallow especially if you have invested a lot of time, money and effort into advertising your facial aesthetic services online. However, remember that all your competitors will have to change their websites too. The ASA do have the power to administer sanctions and have facilities to scan social media platforms too so you have no choice but to make the necessary changes and updates.

CAN SEO FOR FACIAL AESTHETICS BE UPDATED?

Your website’s search engine optimisation can be altered. A technical search engine optimisation expert will be able to make updates provided they know what can and can’t be listed. The content on your website will also need to be adjusted and once it has been re-optimised, these changes may take a while to appear on the search engines. An experienced dental SEO expert will be able to advise you of expected search engine ranking positions, but there is no guarantee if your website will appear near the top, or generate similar levels of traffic as before.

THE GOOD NEWS…

It is important that your website and social media marketing meets up-to-date advertising guidelines. The good news is that qualified dentists and practitioners can still promote their consultation services to the general public. For example; the consultation for the treatment of lines and wrinkles.

You can also include some factual information about Botulinum Toxin products and promote non-prescription only medicines such as fillers.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO NEXT?

If you are concerned about your website falling down the the google rankings and losing out on many potential patient consultations, it would be advisable to contact your web designer or SEO company.

Alternatively contact design4dentists who can assess your dental website and guide you with the next appropriate steps. We can make sure your site does not breach any advertising guidelines whilst still maximising the number of visitors to your facial aesthetic pages.
