The Private Dentistry Awards 2008

The Private Dentistry awards are designed to promote excellence in private dental practice. Now in their 8th year they are judged by an independent panel of judges including previous winners and members of the Private Dentistry editorial board.

Chairman of the judging panel David Houston said that this year had produced both the largest number of entrants and the greatest strength in depth across all the categories.

Design4dentists and Meredith Marketing are delighted to have led the winning entry for Best Marketing. This category sought to demonstrate unique selling point for the practice, how they have marketed and differentiated themselves from the competition. The judges were seeking innovators and lateral thinkers who set new benchmark standards in marketing their services.

On behalf of their client aesthetics, a visionary new practice set up by Dr Harry Singh, the marketing team supported him and his team with presentations which resulted in being shortlisted for all 6 categories entered. In less than 1 year since setting up his private squat, Dr Singh's leadership resulted in 3 runner's-up places for Most Attractive Practice, Best New Practice, and Most Innovative Practice, and the award for Best Marketing.

Kate Adam of Meredith Marketing, and Alex Nicolaou of design4dentists started working together only a year ago with aesthetics. Alex has over 21 years experience in design and branding, the past 9 of which also includes working with over 100 dentists creating attention-grabbing and innovative design solutions. A fully-qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Kate’s 20 years experience has come from outside dentistry, including telecoms giant Orange.

Teamwork is very much part of Dr Singh’s ethos. His clear vision set the marketing challenge, and Kate ensured that a structured plan was put together to deliver it. With Alex to interpret the design, the duo worked across a wider team of experts, from the team at aesthetics itself, to graphic designers and printers – ensuring consistent delivery of innovative, impactful and integrated marketing campaigns. Results are tracked at every stage through to patient conversion to allow for improvements to be made where needed.


Here’s the Judges’ Final Verdict on the aesthetics entry:

'Almost by definition a winner in this category must make a unique statement in a crowded and competitive marketplace.

This practice’s campaigns were of a consistently very high quality. They have ideally understood their target market and have maximized their presence on the internet in particular.

Extremely clever promotional package offers created clear messages and strong ties with unusual local business referral sources.

Although this practice had considerable marketing budget available, the decisions on how and where to use it were ground-breaking.

The winner was a very well rounded entry with many spheres of innovative ideas in marketing being encompassed by their well-considered and consistent plan to maximize new clients.

Their clever strategy was particularly designed to ensure a very high conversion rate from initial enquiries to registered patients – utilising both free consultations and open evenings.

All of this was complemented by supportive eye-catching in house literature.
The winner of the category epitomized quality across the board in the various advertising mediums’.
