IS YOUR WEBSITE GDC COMPLIANT?

This short video introduces the dental website GDC regulations which dental practices must include. I have also written below information for quick reference purposes. However, you can find more precise information on the design4dentists website compliance page which contains a guide to the GDC’s Principles of Ethical Advertising. If you would like to read more about the advertising rules set by the General Dental Council, please click the link at the bottom of this page.

DENTAL PROFESSIONALS

Website GDC regulations require dental professionals who provide dentistry to display the following information on your website:
• their professional qualification and the country from which that qualification is derived; and
• their GDC registration number.
You must not include any honorary qualification, or letters after their name relating to a membership or fellowships of an association.

GENERAL WEBSITE INFORMATION

Many dental websites fail to include basic yet fundamental information. You must must make sure your website includes:
• the name of the practice, geographic address, your telephone number and email address
• state very clearly whether the practice is NHS only, mixed or wholly private;
• and include a link to the GDC website;
• you must display details of your privacy policies, procedures and practice’s complaints procedure
• a date the website was last updated.

TREATMENTS & SERVICES

When advertising or promoting dental treatments and services, the website GDC regulations state that you must ensure information you produce is accurate and not misleading. You must avoid statements which may create an unjustified expectation about the results you can achieve. If you are endorsing a product, you must only provide factual information.

MARKETING & PROMOTIONS

And lastly, If you promote your dental treatments and services on social media you must make it clear that the treatment advertised may not be appropriate for every patient.
