What
is a specialist?
With
a vast amount of research carried out worldwide every year, along with many
new innovations, dentistry covers a huge area. After first acquiring a basic
dental degree in general dentistry, dentists can undertake further postgraduate
training and qualifications to specialise in different fields of dentistry
such as:
Restorations (implants, cosmetic, crown and bridgework, dentures), tooth straightening,
childrens dentistry, root fillings, extractions, minor oral surgery,
gum treatment and maxillo-facial surgery.
The Specialist title can only be used if a dentist has been recognised
by other members of the profession to have a higher degree of training and
experience in that particular field of dentistry.
